Celebrating its 110th year, the Chartered Institute of Plumbing and Heating Engineering (CIPHE) is the professional body for the UK plumbing and heating industry. It is also an educational charity and members are encouraged to keep up to date with new technologies and changes of regulations and legislation by undertaking CPD.

Membership of the CIPRE is made up of individuals from a wide range of backgrounds such as consultants, specifiers, designers, public health engineers, lecturers, trainers, trainees and practitioners. At present there are around 7,200 members including approximately 180 manufacturers and distributors, which support its work as Industrial Associates. Whilst the majority of members five in the UK some 800 are resident in Hong Kong and a further 300 are resident in over 30 other countries.

The CIPHE participates in the Apprentice, Journeyman and Plumber award schemes. This recognises the achievements of members from trainees through to those who have mastered the craft, science and practice of plumbing.

The CIPHE is involved with the Plumbing & Domestic Cleating Trailblazer Apprenticeship currently being developed by employers across the industry. It has an Education & Training Group, which meets four times a year with people working in the field of education, or who are concerned with issues affecting the training of the next generation of plumbers and heating installers.

Kevin Wellman, Chief Executive Officer, sits on the WCP's Education & Technical Committee. He is also a founding director of the WaterSafe Installer Scheme. In 2013, Kevin was elected to the Executive Board of the World Plumbing Council. The CIPHEE was instrumental in the formation of this global-organisation.
